Saathiya

It is such a beautiful day! The waters of the sea are as calm as millpond; the wind is as soft as silk and the trees are happily nodding their head with a swift blow of breeze. The vast expanse of sky is covered with turgid grey clouds that are anxiously waiting to empty their pockets and moisten the dry lips of the earth. What a lovely view it is. There is a slight chill in the air and it reminds of Delhi’s crispy winters. The moment I think of Delhi’s winters some beautiful faces and unforgettable memories comes in to my mind. Early morning walk with my sister cum Friend, Rashmi, (where we would discuss about our career, life, marriage and share some typical bitchy girly gossips), piping hot gulab jamuns of a local sweet shop, smoking homemade aloo paranthas with adrak chai and songs to accompany them. And one song which would make our heart go boom boom, and take us away in to the world of day dreaming, was the title song of the movie Saathiya.

I still remember how excited my sister was when she told me about this song. She had heard it in a card shop and since then she just could not stop herself from humming it all the time. Unlike what she is, Rashmi was so restless and eager then to introduce me to that song. Saathiya clicked me instantly and grew over me like a moss over a tree. I have literally lost the counts how many time did we hear it in a day. The smooth, silky, and the flirtatious voice of Sonu Nigham had completely overpowered us. The echoing flute solos at the music intervals pierced straight in to our heart and made us feel weak in the knees. I still consider it one of the most beautiful and mesmerising compositions of AR Rehman.
The melody of the song is as sweet and pure as honey and it makes you feel as if you are taking a lazy stroll on a foggy trail of a hill station and breathing in the crisp and peppermint fresh air. The Gulzar’s poetry is absolutely magical and spellbinding. If you are one of those who are hard core romantic, love poetry, admire nature then you would surely enjoy drowning in the melodious and romantic whirlpool of this soulful song.

Why not once again let your heart beat with the melody and let your mind swiftly flow with the lyrics.

Saathiya ... Saathiya
maddham maddham teri ye geeli hansi
saathiya ... saathiya
sun ke ham ne saari pee li hansi

hansti rahe tu hansti rahe hayaa kee laalee khilatee rahe
zulf ke neeche gardan pe subah-o-shaam milatee rahe
hansti rahe tu hansti rahe hayaa kee laalee khilatee rahe
zulf ke neeche gardan pe subah-o-shaam milatee rahe
sondhee see hansi teree khilatee rahe milatee rahe

peelee dhoop pahan ke tuum dekho baag mein math jaana
bhanware tum ko sab chhedenge phoolon mein math jaanaa
maddham maddham hans de phir se
sona sona phir se hans de
taazaa gire patte ki tarah sabz lawn par lete huey
saath rang hain bahaaron ke ek adaa mein lapete huey
saawan bhaadon saare tujh se
mousam mousam hanste rahnaa
maddham maddham hanste rahnaa
saathiya ... saathiya
maddham maddham teri ye geeli hansi
saathiya ... saathiya
sun ke ham ne saari pee li hansi

kabhee neele aasmaan pe chalo ghoomanein chalein ham
koi abr mil gayaa to zameen pe baras lein ham
teri baalee hil gaee hai kabhee shab chamak uthee hai kabhee shaam khil gayee hai

tere baalon kee panaah mein is siyaah raath guzare
teri kaalee kaalee aankhein koi ujalee baath uthare
teree ik hansee ke badale meree ye zameen le le meraa aasmaan le le
saathiya ... saathiya
maddham maddham teri ye geeli hansi
saathiya ... saathiya
sun ke ham ne saari pee li hansi

barf giree ho vaadee mein
oon mein lipatee simatee huyee
barf giree ho vaadee mein aur hansee teree goonjee
oon mein lipatee simatee huyee baath kare dhuvaan nikale
garam garam ujlaa dhuvaan naram naram ujalaa dhuvaan
